The Top Tourist Activities in Uganda

Uganda is one of Africa’s top tourist destinations mainly because of her abundant natural resources with diverse cultures, climates, scenic and landscape beauty as well as incredible ecosystems. Uganda also boasts of significant numbers of different game stock.

There are various activities in Uganda that one can enjoy while on a tourist adventure and they are as follows:-

The most famous tourism activity in Uganda is game viewing due the variety of game stock concentrated in the country’s many protected areas in form of National Parks, Wildlife Reserves and Forest Reserves.Uganda has 10 National Parks which enables tourists to have an ultimate wilderness experiences. The said National parks include:-  Murchison Falls  National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park,Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Mgahinga National Park, Kibale Forest National Park, Kidepo National Park, Semuliki National Park and Lake Mburo National Park. All these parks have a variety of game species including hippos, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, crocodiles, antelopes, baboons, birds,monkeys, forest hogs, bush bucks, leopards, and Civets among many more attractions.

The Uganda Wildlife Education center is another place to get information about Ugandan wild animals. The said centre has about283 animals in their care, 13 big cats in their care and 250 herbs and medicinal plants in their forest. The centre also boasts of other activities like a Children’s play sea, beach games, forest walk experience, Donkey and Camel Rides, the Noah’s Ark ride and first aid services.

Primate tracking is another activity to reckon with in Uganda. This activity involves tracking of Gorillas and Chimpanzees among other primates. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park are the major habitats for Mountain Gorillas whose total number in the world is a mere six hundred (600) or thereabout. Gorilla trekking requires one to have permits which ought to be reserved and paid for in advance  Monies collected through the said permits are used to conserve the endangered Gorillas and also improve infrastructure in the conservation communities.

Chimpanzees can be seen in Queen Elizabeth National Park and the Rwenzori Mountains National Park among parks.

Boating is another activity one can enjoy in Uganda. The country has many lakes and rivers including Lakes, Victoria,Edward, Albert, Mburo, Bunyonyi and Kyoga among others where visitors can enjoy a number of activities including boat cruises and expeditions among other activities. In the same realm is Bungee jumping which takes place at the one of the bridges on River Nile.

For the more adventurous, they can take part in White Water Rafting on River Nile as well as sight seeing on the same river while enjoying water falls along the same river.

Bird watching is another activity that one can enjoy in Uganda. Uganda is estimated to host about half of Africa’s list which is about 1,080 species. This activity can be done in the several National Parks aforementioned or in the several forests and Mabamba Bay or at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre.

There are other tourist activities to enjoy in Uganda which include visits to the Uganda Reptile Village in Entebbe, the Uganda Museum in the Kampala, land the source of the River Nile in Jinja among others.
